Chapter 4
The two warriors sliced the last of the undead demon spawns and walked towards the altar.
“Prepare yourself Max, for we will slay you”. Yelled Hirotsugu as he positioned himself.
“Fools, I will drink to your death with your bones!” The Demon belabored.
The two warriors attacked the Demon and his horse Claire. As their swords touched the beast it snapped in half. The Demon then pushed the two back with his spell and charged towards Hirotsugu. In an instance, Hirotsugu was pushed aside, as the Demon's sword struck Jun’s shoulder. Rich blood streamed out of the deep cut as Jun screamed in pain. Hirotsugu rushed to Jun and dragged him out of the chaos.
“Jun, are you alright?” Hirotsugu shouted in the midst of the thunder and lightning. Jun clenched his teeth and nodded. “I will kill that Demon, Jun. I promise you.” Hirotsugu locked his eyes on to his fellow warrior.
Just as Hirotsugu got up to face the Demon, there was a sudden screech coming from the Demon’s direction. Before him was a familiar figure that was clenched on to the Demon. The lightning and thunder only grew brighter and louder.
“You imbeciles! Hahaha this isn’t the end!” Max screeched as his bright red eyes faded into nothing. The silky black horse disappeared with him, leaving nothing but their armor.
The familiar figure made its way towards Hirotsugu and Jun. As it got closer, the face became more clear. It was Hirotsugu’s younger sister, Karin. Karin gaped at Jun’s bloody shoulder, and without a single word, the siblings carried Jun back home. They left him to sleep after nourishing and aiding his shoulder.
Karin held up the dagger that she used to stab the Demon’s chest and dropped into Hirotsugu’s hands. Immediately after, she fell to the ground, clenching her shirt. She was breathing heavily as if she had just run several miles.
“Take care of that dagger Hirotsugu...It’ll come in handy.” Karin smiled, slowly positioning herself with her back flat on the floor.
“Wait. What’s happening? Are you alright Karin?” Hirotsugu was cold and melancholy. He knew he would be cursed by the Demon either way. But he didn’t expect for his sister to die before him. Hirotsugu placed his hand on his sister’s forehead.
“Don’t worry about me. Just know, you are now cursed. The fight isn’t over yet.” Karin shut her eyes as she took her last breath.
